PARKVIEW WEST
SPOKANE, WASHINGTON
The form and material selections of Parkview West was conceived as a response to its rich context and history. The West End of downtown Spokane has historically been home to old auto shops and warehouses. The intent of the patina panels is to evoke a sense of warmth, age, and industry—and a little bit of fun, emphasizing the history and character of the West End by not appearing too new, cold, or out of place. The awning windows are also inspired by the history of the old steel windows that still exist in the surrounding historic buildings. Steel grating on the cantilevered decks also draws inspiration from the pattern of history fire escapes that dot the frontage of 1st Avenue. The ground floor and sidewalk improvements provide generous landscaping, pedestrian signage and built-in benches to reinforce the public realm with activation and opportunities for community interaction.
