Mazama is a small town located at the upper end of the beautiful Methow Valley. The home was commissioned by a tourism professional, with 20 years of experience in the adventure travel and ecotourism business in Asia. The client also brought a keen interest in ecological restoration, sustainable agriculture and sustainable design, making this an ideal collaboration resulting in a home with a compact footprint, energy efficient design and contextual response. The home, though not intended to be Passive House certified, was designed to similar stringent standards, with high performance and technically advanced floor, wall, and roof assemblies not found is typical home construction. A thorough study of the material pallet, fenestration patterns and site placement resulted in a home designed specifically to the location and needs of the owner.
