GREEN BLUFF
MEAD, WASHINGTON
Located in a field at the foothills of the Green Bluff farming community this single-family residence was designed to accommodate a family of nine. The surrounding area has historically been known for its equestrian properties as well as small farms serving the region and this local vernacular was used as inspiration for the form and configuration of the home.
Three pods separate public and private spaces into distinct spaces and provide physical separation from the living and sleeping quarters. The children’s wing is comprised of 7 “micro-rooms” that can provide each child with their own private space while keeping the overall scale of the home from becoming oversized. All three pods, surround a central courtyard that is designed to be the focal point of the home, with a pool and a 32’ wide sliding door connecting the interior public space with outside activities.
The gentle rolling landscape of the site allowed the home to have an on-grade entrance at the front of the home while the courtyard and rear portion of the home is elevated five feet above the natural contours and vegetation of the site, framing views of the distant fields of the Peone Prairie.
