360FOREST HOUSE

VALLEYFORD, WA

Homes typically have a clear focal point - a view element, body of water, or street, with which to organize a plan around. But forty acres of dry pine and scattered granite boulders created a rare design opportunity to face outward in every direction, 360 degrees about face to the forest.

The clients wished for a partially open plan, so a stair and tall casework wall in the kitchen served to dived the dining room from the kitchen, while keeping the living spaces open to one another. An outdoor living room divides the master wing from the public spaces with a breezeway that doubles as a front door and viewing aperture to the forest beyond.

Mid-century lines meet a northwest modern aesthetic for a home that speaks the vernacular language of it’s place - showcasing the wood and stone of it’s surrounding forest.
